2016 was a seminal year for foster and adoption movies. "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" was a movie we stumbled upon while in New Zealand for our engagement trip. Our first night in town, we had our evening free and wanted to see a local film. Little did we know it was opening night for what would become our favorite film of the year. "Lion" is the only film that Chris can remember that got him to cry twice.

Before "the Joy Luck Club", it had been 32 years since a feature film with a focus on the Asian American experience caught mainstream attention. Then, it took another 26 years before the next. Luckily, it seems as if the drought is over. "The Farewell" stands out among the recent slate of films that features a full Asian American cast.

Shooting guns into the sky because you're emotionally overwrought? FUCK YES, DUDE. 1991's "Point Break" was the action movie that put Oscar-winning director Katherine Bigelow on the map, and single handedly put the dream of skydyving into Chris' mind. "Hot Fuzz" is Edgar Wright's ode to the 90's action movie, and single handedly made Chris want to watch Point Break again.

“Coming to America” is the first movie to establish the Eddie Murphy Cinematic Universe. With both movies including Mortimer and Randolph Duke, the real question is when will the next chapter of the Eddieverse be released that contains both Billy Ray Valentine and Prince Hakeem meeting each other and pulling some Parent Trap style hijinks? “Coming to America” is Jessica’s favorite comedy, and she’s hopeful yet apprehensive about the upcoming sequel.
